Our standard package includes 10-15 exotic animals including snakes, frogs, lizards, tarantulas, geckos, and scorpions of all different sizes. Although the exact animals cannot be guaranteed as they vary per presenter and daily availability possible animals include: Burmese Python, Pixie Frog, Leopard Gecko, Kingsnake, Rosy Boa, Black & White Tegu, Blue Tongue Skink, Cornsnake, Ball Python, Bearded Dragon, Rose Hair Tarantula, Whites Tree Frog, and Sulcata Tortoise. Animal upgrades like an American Alligator and Giant Reticulated Python are also available for an additional fee on request.
Our critters are professional animal ambassadors which means they have been specially chosen for their docile temperament and have had the opportunity to interact with lots and lots of guests during their time as a party animal (great job title right!). Of course, anything with a mouth can bite, which is why your animal educator will teach proper animal handling techniques and always supervise the animals when on-site. We do bring a scorpion and a tarantula to each party, which each have a small amount of poison like a bee sting; but we bring these specific animals because they are known to be very tame making them the perfect fit as animal ambassadors. If we feel like a certain animal is not acting right or could be a danger to the guests, they will not be involved with that presentation. If you are still worried about the scorpion or tarantula or any animal on our list, you can request that they are not shown.
It is true reptiles can carry salmonella, especially tortoises, although it is very uncommon. Good hygiene practices are always highlighted as part of the presentation to minimize any possible risk. We recommend guests regularly wash their hands with soap and water as part of healthy habits, especially after touching animals of any kind and before eating. More information about the benefits and best practices for handwashing and salmonella can be found at www.cdc.gov.
We try to make it as easy as possible and your animal educator with all he or she will need for your presentation. Our only request is an area out of direct sun for our host to set-up which should fill about a 4ftx6ft space. Otherwise if the guests are comfortable, we’re happy! Both inside and outside presentations are fine, but outside is preferred.
If possible, we always recommend moving the party to covered area like a garage or covered patio. If the there will be a change in location or your event due to weather, please call or email us as soon as possible so your host will have the updated event information.
We have hosted events at a wide variety of parks and carry the necessary licenses and permits for most locations. We recommend reaching out to your contact at the park as soon as possible to see what their unique requirements might be. Unfortunately, every park is different so we cannot guarantee approval at any given location. It will be your responsibility to make sure educational animal demonstrations are approved at your location. If requested, we can gladly provide proof of insurance and additionally insured blanket endorsements. Although rarely required, any required changes to our insurance policy could incur an additional fee.
Your private party area is stocked with tables, benches, hand sanitizer and bamboo décor on the walls. You are welcome to bring any additional décor, as well as all required utensils and supplies associated with the food you will provide your guests. Don’t forget a cake knife, a lighter and candles for the guest of honor’s special Happy Birthday moment! Please note there is no refrigeration on-site, so coolers are recommended for frozen or chilled treats. Tablecloths are recommended. In the Amazon Room there are 2 six-foot tables for food and gifts and 2 eight-foot tables for seating and in the Congo Room there are 3 six-foot tables for seating and 1 for serving. Our only restrictions include no alcohol or pinatas.
When you first arrive 15-30 minutes before your party start time your animal educator will guide you to your private party area and can assist in bringing any supplies. As guests start to arrive they can check in at the front desk and will receive a unique colored wristband that signifies they are part of your event. Usually during the first 30 minutes of the event most hosts have light snacks as guest arrive and check out The Reptile Zoo. Your animal educator will check back with you about 25 minutes into your event to start guiding guests to your private presentation area. Your hands-on presentation will last for one hour followed by free time to be used either enjoying The Reptile Zoo or food and cake in your private party room. Once your 2.5 hour event is complete your animal educator will again return to help with any necessary clean up. Please feel free to pack up just what you are taking home and our team will do the rest.
